What chemical solvents are commonly used to remove graffiti?
There are a number of chemicals commonly used to remove graffiti, which depend on the type of paint or marker used by the tagger: acetone, alcohol, lacquer thinner, methyl chloride, turpentine, and mineral spirits. It’s also possible to paint over the graffiti with oil or latex-based paint.
Will pressure washing remove graffiti?
For mechanical removal of graffiti, the most effective setup is a 3000 psi pressure washer that can heat the water to above 87 degrees celsius, with a 5 gpm flow. If you have access to a cold water pressure washer (1500 – 3000 psi) you will need to extend the dwell time of the chemical on the surface to a minimum of 30 minutes.
