Epoxy Flooring

Epoxy flooring is the ultimate floor coating, providing a great range of benefits. The term epoxy denotes the type of resin mix that the “paint” is made from. It is generally a two pack kit that means part A and part B of the product are mixed together and then form a tough, durable finish when cured. Epoxy floors are well known for their excellent chemical resistance properties, and are capable of withstanding spills from oils, detergents, and other contaminants. Epoxy floors are hygienic and very hard wearing, and bond extremely well to concrete floors.

Until recently, epoxy flooring was commonly only used as an industrial floor finish. However recent technological advances have meant that applications such as schools, garage floors, veterinary clinics, medical centres, kitchen floors, and laboratories all benefit very well from the application of an epoxy paint to their floors. The epoxy floor will not harbour bacteria, can be easily cleaned and is very durable. There is now also a water based two pack epoxy coating available!. Epoxy flooring provides a hard wearing, chemical resistant surface, and is ideal for use in areas subject to foot and rubber- tyred vehicle traffic. It can be applied as a slip resistant texture to provide maximum safety, and has a very low odour when being applied so it is perfect for internal floor areas.

Epoxy flooring is available in a huge array of colours, and the high-build versions are extremely glossy in their look. Other versions of the epoxy can be over coated with polyurethanes, which will further enhance gloss levels and scratch resistance, and reduce “chalking” on external surfaces.

Epoxy can also be used to create anti slip floor surfaces. This is achieved by adding an aggregate (grit) during the mixing process. The aggregate when dry then forms a “sandpaper- like” finish that aids slip resistance.
