What Causes Bore Water Stains?
Bore water stains are caused by naturally occurring minerals and dissolved solids in groundwater, particularly iron. When bore water is sprayed onto walls, fences, paving, driveways or windows through irrigation systems, the dissolved minerals are left behind as the water evaporates.
The most common cause is high iron content. When exposed to air, dissolved iron oxidises and forms rust (ferric hydroxide), which appears as reddish-brown or orange staining on surfaces. In some areas, groundwater may also contain calcium and magnesium, leading to white or cloudy hard-water marks, as well as manganese, which can create darker brown or even black staining.
Over time, repeated irrigation cycles allow these mineral deposits to build up, causing stains to become darker and more noticeable, particularly around sprinklers, garden beds, fences and exterior walls. While bore water is an excellent and cost-effective irrigation source, the mineral staining it leaves behind can be unsightly. The good news? Bore stain removal is absolutely possible.
Over the years, we’ve refined specialised bore stain removal techniques that restore affected surfaces and help make your property look as good as new.
